Christine, Alyssa, Ian and I were in the UU Christmas Pageant today at church. Chris was such a sport, agreeing to be in front of the whole church after having only attended about a half dozen times or so. We took my kids to the rehearsal yesterday (they had been recruited several weeks ago) and when the director lamented that she hadn’t filled the parts of Mary and Joseph, well, we had to fulfill our civic, moral, and religious duties. Yep, we were Mary and Joseph. Rumor has it the baby wasn’t mine. She and I need to talk about that.

(Oh, yeah, I shaved my goatee off a few weeks ago too. Whee!)

The song is a ditty I made up one night when Emma was asking me to sing a song to her. I sing her to sleep every night. She was asking for some song, but I couldn’t make out what she was saying. Sounded something like Polly, so I made up a Polly Pocket song. This was my “hello world” with the Mbox, so forgive the rhythm, intonation, etc. problems. I was going to ditch it, but Alyssa’s yodel in the background made it worth keeping, I think.

Alyssa was on our local news today as part of a quilting project done at our church. Anna took up quilting when she got sick and made a quilt for each of us with a hand-written note on a square in the middle. Alyssa started working on the quilt in the video at our church retreat this past summer, a week or two after Anna died. She stayed up until 2am working on it. I’m really proud of her. And I think she interviewed really well this morning at church.

I’ve been writing more music lately, and I would enjoy recording it and putting it online. For those that don’t know, my degree from Purdue is actually in Theatre Sound Design and I’ve done a fair amount of recording and live sound reinforcement in a past life. So I’m excited to do some recording and to do have an outlet for some of my recent songwriting, some of which is, predictably, dark and depressing, and some of which is silly kids stuff.

Being generally repulsed by MySpace, I decided to look into what I could do with posting my music here. Looks like, thanks to PodPress, I can do a lot with very little work. To that end, I’ve posted a junky-sounding but entertaining recording of Ian when he was about 2.
