Got my family tree tattoo filled in. Much less painful this time, probably because of the location. He only had to do the greens and blues of the leaves. So it was only 2 hours vs. 4 the first time. I’m pretty happy with it, but not thrilled. I think the green transitions to the blue a bit abruptly. He wants me to come back in after it heals (about 3 weeks) and he said we can tweak it a bit then. I’m going to have him add some yellow to the lower part of the blue to make more of a green transition area and see if he can put a bit of blue somehow in the top of the green on the next level of leaves below. Overall, it’s been a very positive experience and overall I’m very, very happy with my tattoo.
My artist, Mike, said he’d always wanted to play the harmonica. He’s a guitar player. So I gave him a nice harmonica (in addition to a few bucks) for a tip this time. I think he was pretty pleased about that.
You can see it’s peeling a bit right now. More pics when it’s totally healed.
Opinions of any sort are welcome. Don’t hold back.

I think I agree — transition too harsh. The blue is clouds? There’s maybe too much white — maybe that’s what’s affecting the transition from sky to tree. But the overall design is GREAT and it looks so AWESOME on your leg.
I love it!!

It has a lot of depth and dimension. I’m not a big ink gal but I like this and the story that goes with it. It packs a lot in and is visually lovely to boot.

you’re right, the transition is a bit harsh between blue and green. i’m not quite sure how much softer you can get it with ink on skin, and you can’t really turn green back to blue, can you? so there’ll probably not be that much blue left when he puts in more yellow? maybe he can put in another little clump of foliage beneath the blue part and leave a little of that blue, too, so the transition is more gradual? i don’t really know enough about tattooing to judge that.
i like the image a lot, and the shading looks amazing. gosh, i hadn’t realised how hard you have to push down on that machine. it looks painful. wishing you good healing now!

The word is “rad”, my friends. Meaning AND gorgeous — a winning combination.

That was hard to watch!
I agree with your impression about the blue–I think it would look better with a lot less blue, more green and yellow, a more blended transition.
Overall, totally cool.

I think it is incredible. I’m not a tattoo fan, but this is different. This means something to you and it always will. Its so beautiful, and I think the blue looks just fine as it is.

Once it heals and the colors aren’t quite so vivid, it will look a little different-I think it looks great.

I’m not an ink girl either, but the roots are a really cool effect, and like many others the story behind the art is touching.

I love it~ I think give it a month and “live” with it… then revisit. I think it’s perfect.

Great root system, branches, and green stuff, and then there’s that funny blue thing on the top. But it’s nice and colorful anyway and overall pretty dramatic!
