The others drank a case of me
(still on their feet)
Aged over time, my love is now
distilled
The blood in my veins put on to boil
Down to an essence now
a spirit now
Vapors in the cask of my flesh
Strong drink
Who will share this cup with me?
The cup of my blood
Sangre de cuerpo
Spirits of my spirit
Overflow

very powerful.
there’s a song by joni mitchell called “a case of you” that sprang to my mind immediately.
i like the analogy.
it also sounds like you’re on a good way.

The Joni Mitchell song inspired this poem. And a lover I had long ago.
Good way? I dunno. I was feeling pretty sorry for myself last night when I posted this (though the poem had been “brewing” for days).

how can i explain … i didn’t mean necessarily that you must be feeling happy and complete - just got the impression during the last couple of weeks that you’re getting a lot of things straight for yourself lately, distilling them to an essence.
i’m sure it’s hard. and you do sound lonely. but then i read the stories about your kids, and they make me laugh. you are a lovely man. you know you are one amazing dad and you have wonderful kids. i know for sure there is someone out there for you to share the cup of your spirit with.

Thanks, bine. I am getting a lot of things straight. I suppose a rough night is going to come by once in a while. I’m usually so strong that it catches me off guard. Today I’m just thankful that morning follows night.

I know how much you love country music, Jase, so I thought I’d share the lyrics of this David Lee Murphy song that expresses a somewhat similar sentiment:
There might be a little dust on the bottle
But don’t let it fool ya about what’s inside
There might be a little dust on the bottle
It’s one of those things that gets sweeter with time
It’s actually a little bit gross, I think. But hey, that’s what makes country music great. Your version is certainly nicer.

Liz - I actually do like country. Just nothing written in the last 2 decades. I’ll have to check this one out, though.

Visceral. Dark bloodred. Meaty. Burns the nostrils when I take a sip.

Lovely.

What I would give for a taste of that…
But I’m too thirsty.
I would gulp and choke in a most unseemly way.
Quite embarrassing.
