We rode to the library this afternoon (only about 1.5 miles) to return some books and donate some old VHS and DVD movies. This is my recumbent bike with Ian’s trail-a-bike connected to one of the seatposts and Emma’s baby trailer connected to the trail-a-bike.
Yep, we got drenched later by that rain cloud in the background. It was a fun adventure.

Holy cow, that is quite a contraption! Being a dork who can’t ride a bike, I never cease to be amazed at all the bike stuff that’s out there. I bet that’s one hell of a workout

ew … is that safe?
it sure looks like a lot of fun, but i was thinking if you have to brake hard or hit a pothole that might end up in chaos?

Emma’s little bike/cubby hole thing is the cutest! I hope you and Ian didn’t get too wet, I’m guessing Emma would be pretty dry in there!

That’s quite the caravan! I love it!
I need to get some new tube thingy’s for my bike before I can break it out. And now that A can ride a bike sans-training wheels, and we will only have 2 kids in the trailer, life will be so much easier!
How does Ian like the little tandem thing?

Jen - it’s a decent workout. Ian can pretty much pull his own weight, so it’s about like me pulling Emma in the trailer. We live in a river valley, so there are some pretty tough uphills. Thankfully, Tae Kwon Do has gotten me in good shape so the hills are getting smaller.
bine - It’s pretty safe. I can get us all stopped pretty quickly if need be. Potholes are not bad - the coupling is secure but flexible, so we don’t rattle one another on rough roads.
Venessa - Ian likes his trail-a-bike quite a bit. He’s a pretty big help.
Hopefully I’ll have us all on my tandem + trail-a-bike + trailer soon. I’ll try and put pics up with that rig too.

Eeek!! Please delete this before James sees it.
I freaked at the idea of James hitching a trailer to his recumbent and tooling down Mem Drive during rush hour with Max in tow. Freaked!
It is still in the box. I am a bad wife.

I bet y’all got quite a bit of attention, tooling through town on that puppy. Fun!

my husband has a similar contraption. His is a road bike with a trail a bike and a trailer in tow. He’s got both twins in the trailer and my middle one on the trail a bike. My oldest does her own 2 wheeler.

Karrie - that’s cool that James has a ‘bent. I knew I liked him. I was a car-free bike commuter in Boston. It was awesome. Like a live-action videogame. With kids, well, I think I share your sentiments.
Kate - we do get a lot of double takes and a few “get that thing off the street!” comments.
Kat - post a pic!

Is that the only shirt you wear when riding your bike?

I cannot wait to get a bike again. I didn’t ride for a few years (pesky fat pregnant lady=no center of gravity that works) and I’m looking forward to riding the trail behind the house.
