I just read a great interview with one of my favorite novelists of all time - Tom Robbins. He said his personal motto has always been “Joy in spite of everything.” That so resonates with me. It’s always been my personal motto, too. I just never knew it until now.
The events of the last few days and a good dose of Jackson Browne lyrics are reminding me I have so much to unlearn. More on that later.

Right, Jason, he sounds great. Just checked his interview. Nothing like not taking oneself too seriously in spite of, even because of?, everything! To confess, I had never (to my knowledge:) heard of him: Tim Robbins, yes, Tom Robbins, no.

Dude. I just had to stop to say what an awesome mindchange that was for me- one little phrase: “so much to unlearn.” That’s the nugget of “Well fucking Duh!” wisdom I needed today. Unlearning my bad patterns. I’m all over it. Freakin’ aweseome.

Yeah, it’s that whole Alan Watts thing, Heidi. Once in a while I think I see the Buddha walking around campus or posting a profile on an online dating site. If only I had the courage to pull my trigger.
