I’m trying to potty train Emma. She has to be out of diapers to go to the Montessori school in the fall. One thing that worked with Ian was to let him run around the house without a diaper. I think it makes the kid more aware of their private parts just hanging out. What really makes it work, though, is the parent seeing the kid without a diaper every 30 seconds and asking if they have to go on the potty. So Saturday morning was kinda chill. I took Emma’s diaper off and we were making breakfast and such. She was running around, reading, doing a puzzle, eating, goofing off with her sibs, watching some TV. I was able to get her to go on the potty a couple times (with 3 chocolate chips for treats every time) and she had a few pee-pee accidents, one in the bathroom within inches of the desired target, one in the kitchen on the linoleum, and one in the front room on the carpet (grab the Lysol, Papa).
We finally wrapped things up around 11:30 as it was time to go car shopping. I diped her up and got everyone ready and into the car. I had to run in to grab the diaper bag and my shades. As I’m going back out, I look down at the carpet and I’m like “Damn. The cats must have shit on the carpet. I wonder if they’re getting sick or something. The litter boxes are pretty clean.” Then I look again. “Hmm. That didn’t come out of a cat. Oh, no. Eeeeeeeeew!”
The fun of potty training.

LOL…We haven’t quite gotten to the PT stage yet. The twins are a bit aware - R more than Tman - but not really anticipating at all. I however don’t have to have them PT’d for their nursery school so I have time and no real pressure. My oldest was 3 and my next was 3.5 and they pretty much did it on their own after I botched the job with the first.

BTW, if I can ever get back to it - I am trying to write a post about my music taste with the largest youtube abuse known to man (links not embedded at least)

We’ve had poor everywhere, on the floor, between toes (worst place EVER I might add) in Ros’ hands, offered to me, stuck between bum and bathing suit, on the deck, etc etc.
Sadly, I am not totally used to the poop. Although I do not miss “sitting in bouncy chair, up to the neck in poop you won’t see until you pick me up and hug me” poop.
Hmmm. Too much poop. Time to go to bed.

Oh man!
I think potty training in the summer is a little easier with the warm weather and lighter clothes.
Good luck with that

OMG, El was so bad about doing that in the bouncer! Something about the vibrator I think.
As much as I would like to have just ONE in diapers, I am sooo not looking forward to pt-ing. And Em is not ready yet so I am not pushing it- I made that mistake with A. I stopped trying, and two months later she was completely pted on her own, at age 35 months.

Ya know, venessa, I think there’s probably a lot to be said for not trying and just letting it happen. I mean, no matter how hard I try, the irises in my yard are going to bloom when they’re going to bloom, right? Emma won’t go to Montessori until the fall, so I’m probably not going to sweat it.

Oh, i didn’t mean to imply that you were pushing! If she is having fun running around without pants, awesome! Especially when the weather is nice and she can “go” outside (yes pun intended!).

No, I didn’t take any implications, Venessa. I just think it’s funny how as parents we try to push our kids sometimes when the reality is that the water will boil when it’s good and ready. I was actually thankful you helped me be mindful of this.

Oh dear.. well at least you didn’t step in it!! I’m sure you’ve got plenty more of this to come, oh the fun of it! I used to work in a nursery and have seen more than my fair share of potty training accidents!

I had Max basically trained–out running errands and everything–but then when school started after winter break, it was a disaster. Since he refuses to go at school, I’m just waiting until it’s summer, and then I’m tossing all the pullups.
good luck!
