Alyssa was on our local news today as part of a quilting project done at our church. Anna took up quilting when she got sick and made a quilt for each of us with a hand-written note on a square in the middle. Alyssa started working on the quilt in the video at our church retreat this past summer, a week or two after Anna died. She stayed up until 2am working on it. I’m really proud of her. And I think she interviewed really well this morning at church.

What is that shiny thing Alyssa’s wearing? That is cool.

It’s like a thin mesh polyester shawl. It goes with her dress. It’s the dress she wore to Anna’s funeral. She didn’t know she’d be on TV that day, she just felt like dressing up since her friend was over for a sleepover and brought a nice dress to church. Guess she must not have known us UUs have a dress-down dress code.

I’m into shawls and wraps at the moment. Shawls and wraps are cool. I apologize for sounding like a Valley girl, but I had 3 hours sleep today plus 2 classes and 8 hours lab wrangling, so my brain is basically not here at the moment.
More boring technical questions: what setup do you have for ripping video? I’m assuming it’s an EyeTV thing?

Josette - good luck with the start of school. At least your burrito bol looks like it got you off to a good start
I use Beyond TV on a PC. Records in standard MPEG format. Edit with Virtual Dub and convert to flash video with Riva Flash Encoder. Hadn’t actually done all 3 from a TV source to the blog, but it seems to work great.

Your daughter is lovely. Pretty cool being on TV–my daughter helps out with quilting at our church too.
Okay… record, edit, convert… I’m a total techno amish. I don’t get a word of that. Guess I’ll go churn some butter.
Oh, btw, happy national de-lurking week!

Missy - great term! “National de-lurking week”. That’s just about what it is, now, isn’t it?

Jason, I’m an Atomictumor regular and followed you here. Just thought I would add my voice to the choir.
Alyssa appears to be a very bright young lady. As a father of three daughters, I can understand your pride.

Thanks for coming by, Erica & Jen!
Thanks for the comments, LGirl. What’s NS?
Daco - thanks for stopping by. I think we’ve chatted in AT’s shoutbox. Dads and daughters have a special relationship, don’t they?

LGirl - heh. I thought maybe NS was some cool website I just hadn’t heard of. I’ve always wanted to go to Nova Scotia. Anna and I courted in Maine and it was gorgeous. I just love the northeast.
