My babysitter asked to use Rhapsody while she was home helping with laundry and such. I was glad to oblige. She’s a music fan and she works hard for me, so why not make it nicer by having some tunes. Little did I know she was going to RUIN MY REPUTATION. I pop on to my blog the next day and, HOLY SHIT - there’s Celine Dion staring me in the face. Quick! Grab the HTML extinguisher! I was afraid Ms. Dion and Umphrey’s McGee on the same page might be like matter and anti-matter, causing a major detonation and a possible rip in the fabric of spacetime. I told her that I’d better not start seeing Michael Bolton on there if she wants to keep her job
Oh, except those Justin Timberlake links are mine. I love his new CD and a bunch of the new remixes. This, after I would have been loathe to play his previous one to the stray cat that keeps coming around sending my felines to the ceiling.
So, if you see good music over there on the side, it’s mine. If you see unlistenable tripe, it’s my babysitter.
Oh, and a brief chat with Alyssa this evening got me to thinking I might be able to use Rhapsody tracks as my ringtone on my phone. Lo and behold, it twurked. With zero fuss. So now when I get a call, my friends/coworkers/random strangers in earshot will know exactly who’s bringing sexy back.

Concur, the new JT album is key. I had “SexyBack” remixes on my phone’s mp3 player for the longest time.

Go read Karrie’s version. You’ll enjoy it.
I’m ashamed to admit I like the new JT stuff. Oh the horrors!
How are you liking the Maria Dimension?

So what do you pick for your ring tone?

thordora: I had indeed read Karrie’s Bringing Messy Back. Brilliant. I spent the day coming up with other things I’d bring back. They must have gone away again since I don’t remember a single one. Though it could be a result of the 3 hours of sleep or so due to nightmares. Blech.
I enjoyed the Maria Dimension. It seems that the Dots will end up in the same mental filing cabinet as early Genesis for me. Good, interesting, but probably not in heavy rotation. I prefer music that hovers somwhere between my brain, my heart, and my groin and it seems the Dots are squarely located in my cerebellum. Though I do like me some old Floyd and old Tull and that type of psych rock. So who knows. It’s certainly worth a few more listens.
Puddlejumper: Sexyback (Linus Loves Remix (Explicit Edit))
I guess I’d better give it a good listen and at least see if there’s anything explicit in the first 30 seconds or so.

Excuse me while I go check out the puddles in hell….
Jase - you have completely scared me. Words I never thought I would hear out of your mouth, “bringing sexy back” and, “I love his (JT’s) new CD”. Next thing it will be that Spears girl or that Simpson girl.

Well, no Spears or Simpson for me. Too vapid. But I do have to admit to having liked the other of the Mousketeer triumvirate all along - Christina Aguilera. Especially “Beautiful”. And I like Kelly Clarkson quite a bit too. So watch out not to step in those puddles!

So, as I sat in the car today and listed to some JT, I tried to envision you jammin to the beat. Couldn’t do it. I like it. I just can’t picture you liking it. Not the techno stuff. Tell me what you like about it. Do you like the beat? Do you like the content? Does it remind you of something?

Hmm. Good question. In Sexyback, I’m a sucker for a bit of distortion on the vocals. Sound geek stuff, yes. But sexy sounding. Plus I love Timbaland’s contribution. Content, perhaps, but not as much as just the music itself. The structure of the song, the call-and-repsonse of the bridge with Timbaland, you name it. In “My Love” (which I’m also obsessed with), it’s the weird whoop-whoop thing (that I think is also done by Timbaland). I definitely like techno quite a bit. Chem Bros, Crystal Method, Daft Punk. Though I’d paint the new JT more in a club brush (a la BT) maybe. The new CD is so much better than his last one that I’m inclined to attribute the greatness of it to Timbaland as much as I am to JT. Timbaland sure had the magic touch with Missy Elliott (though she’s done just fine on her own too).
Probably far more than you wanted…
