We were driving to South Carolina and I had gotten tired of hearing the same Beastie Boys song a dozen times in a row (”Check it Out“, per Ian’s request), and said he had to pick something else. He said he wanted to hear the “Flutist Monkeys”. I goggled and wondered what the heck he was talking about. After asking him to repeat it a few times, I realized that he was talking about a CD I have in my car (which we usually listen to after I get tired of the Beastie Boys’ “Check it Out”) that has Carlos Nakai playing Native American flute along with some chanting Buddhist Monks. Aha! “Flutist Monkeys” equals “Buddhist Monks”. Alas, we had no Flutist Monkeys in the van, but we’ll have to put copy in now.
I never get tired of kids’ language blunders…
