That’s Not a Miracle

Ian was having breakfast and spilled a bunch of milk into his bib, unbenownst to me. He later dropped it on the floor and as I was passing by, I tried to pick it up with my foot. I got the bib, but the milk made an impressive spray all down the hall and on to the walls and bathroom door. My mom looked down the hall and said, in an astonished voice “That was a miracle!” Ian looks at the milk, looks at my mom and proclaims “That’s not a miracle, that’s a mess!”

Archimedes and Santa Claus

Alyssa and I watched a program on Saturday night about Archimedes. It was fascinating. Talked about how he basically invented calculus, along with discovering water displacement and such. Talked about his text “The Method” and how it got written over in the middle ages by some monk re-using the papyrus for a prayer book. This was Nova. Finally it talked about how they are using modern technology to recover some of Archimedes’ text underneath the monk’s ink.

Alyssa told me she had a dream Saturday night that Santa Claus helped her by using his magic to check Archimedes’ book out from the library and to recover all the text cleanly. She couldn’t read it because it was in Greek, but it was clear.

I need to see if I can find a copy of that book somewhere so Alyssa can see it in person.

I see ocean

I (Anna) was driving Alyssa and Ian to school on Friday. It was a cloudly morning. Ian and I had just dropped off Alyssa at Cumberland. Ian said “I see ocean, Mommy”. I was sure I misunderstood what he said so I asked Ian to say it again. On the third time threw he explained “See up there Mommy, (pointing to the sun coming threw the clouds of the sky) ocean”.

Finding the ocean in the middle of land locked Indiana. How special. Ian’s words made me smile all day. The world threw the eyes of a two year is so wonderful.

My Mommy

I love to hear Ian call me ‘My Mommy’. He will say things like I love you my mommy. I am afraid my little guy is getting sick. I don’t want him to get too sick b/c of Emma’s health.

We went to Alyssa’s parent teacher conference today and heard a lot of great things about Alyssa. She is doing really well in math and reading.

Squeaky Tiny-tine

Emma is great. She makes all sorts of little squeaky sounds. Mostly due to her lungs being underdeveloped still, I’m sure, but I think it’s because she is our little mousy-mouse. She was so tiny when she came with little stick legs that I started calling her tiny-tine. Dunno if it’ll stick or not since she’s not too tiny anymore, but it’s cute anyway.

Weaning Duscussion with Ian

I was putting Ian to bed and he smashed into my breast. I said “ow!” He said “what happened?” I replied “you hurt side.” And Ian said something like “uh oh.” “I want this side” (pointing to one breast). “I can’t give you side - I have to save the milk for baby Emma.” And Ian responded with “I have side after baby Emma has milk.” “Unfortunately, if I give you side, then I don’t have enough milk for baby Emma.” “Baby Emma can’t have cornbread like you.” Then Ian said “Oh. How about cuddle?” Then I said “I love you my Ian.” And he cuddled up next to me and went to sleep.
