The One You Feed

Jase sent this to me. I liked it so much I wanted to add it to
our family journal. There is a lot of wisdom in these words.

An elderly Cherokee Native American was teaching his grandchildren about life……..

He said to them, “A fight is going on inside me, it is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One wolf is evil—he is fear, anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, competition, superiority, and ego.
The other is good —he is joy, peace, love, hope, sharing, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, friendship, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person, too.”
They thought about it for a minute and then one child asked his grandfather, “Which wolf will win?”

The Elder simply replied, “The one you feed.”

Prince and Marlena

I have a story series I created probably more than a year ago for Alyssa called “Prince and Marlena” about a horse named Prince and a girl, about 5, named Marlena. There is also a family of “pegasus unicorns” and the magical island of Equus and much more. I’ve recorded some of them, but need to get more in audio format. Need to get a PDA with a voice recorder.

Pumpkin Picking

One of my favorite memories of Alyssa was when she was about two and we went with Lab School to Kent Farm to pick out pumkins. It was a beautiful sunny fall day, Ruth Hornbrook and Benjamin were with us, Alyssa came running into my arms. She ran for about 20 feet with a big smile on her face.

Eye Biffs and Babyhugs

Alyssa managed to biff her eye last night at the playground with Cara while we were at tennis. She’s been pretty tough about it. She looks kinda cool with her eye all scraped up. Like she’s tough.

Ian has gotten into the habit of giving me these giant, 30 second long babyhugs when I get home from work. What an absolute treat!

A Good Pappa

I have really come to appreciate what a good Pappa Jason is in the past year. He has made a big effort to connect with Alyssa and Ian.

What the World Needs Now

Wonderful memory, on Monday June 9 I walked with Ian from our house to PCCP. My plan was to take the bus home. Alyssa decided she wanted to walk to Katie’s. So, we did. It really helped that Katie and Lindsay meet us at Northwestern and Cherry Lane. She sang ‘What the world needs now is love sweet love’ over and over again. It was a delightful afternoon.

The Princess and the Queen

This weekend we went to Chicago to visit Jordan, Kim, Katie, Bata and Grandma Judy. We went to the aquirium. It was a lot of fun.
We went to celebrate Danny Dunne’s High School graduation. On Sunday Alyssa spent time with Bata and Grandma Judy by herself. At one point Grandma Judy said “Now both of Bata’s princesses will be dressed in pink”. Alyssa responded with “No, Grandma Judy I am the Princess and you are the Queen.”

Laughing and Crying

Last night Jase heard Ian crying really hard. I was going to get him a wipes. He was super tried. Jase said “You have to remind me sometimes that you are such a little guy”. After I got him wiped up
(he pooped) he nursed and went right back to sleep.
Ian has a great sense of humor. He clicks his tongue repeatedly and smiles when you copy him.

Alyssa can make Ian laugh longer and harder than anyone else. He really likes his sissy a lot.

Wonderful Kids

Ian is a wonderful smiley baby. Everywhere he goes he shares a big smile with someone and makes them smile back. He usually picks an older person. He locks his focus and them and smiles away.

Alyssa is a wonderful, smart, inquiztize five year. I wish I could keep her as a five year old for ever. She is really interested in Dragon stories.
